These days, many people use thermoses because they are very effective at keeping liquids hot or cold for long periods of time. Because of this, they are often used to take coffee or tea on long car journeys, or to pack lunches with hot or cold drinks. However, not all thermoses are created equal, and some are more expensive than others. Fortunately, vacuum flasks are an option.

Vacuum bottles are like insulated flasks, but the difference is that they have a vacuum between the layers of material that make up the bottle. This helps to keep the temperature of the liquid inside the bottle more stable for longer. Vacuum flasks are also more durable than insulated flasks and can last for many years. However, the tricky part of vacuum flasks is maintenance, so we will discuss the details in this article.

How a vacuum flask works

Vacuum flasks work by keeping the air inside the flask at a low pressure. This low pressure makes it more difficult to transfer heat from outside the bottle to inside. This helps to keep the liquid inside the bottle at a more stable temperature.

The vacuum bottle consists of two parts, the inner bottle and the outer bottle. The inner bottle is made of glass, which is a good material for holding liquids as it does not interact with the liquid inside. The outer bottle is made of metal, which is a good material for keeping the bottle insulated.

The vacuum bottle has a cap that seals the two bottles together. The lid has a small hole that draws air out of the bottle, thus creating a vacuum. When finished, the pressure inside the bottle is lower than the outside. This makes it more difficult for heat to be transferred from the outside to the inside. The vacuum also makes it more difficult for liquids to evaporate inside the bottle.

Cleaning the vacuum flask

To clean a vacuum flask, you can take several steps, for example

Using used tea bags

After drinking your tea, your instinct may tell you to throw it in the trash. Many people do not realise that used tea bags are effective cleaners because they contain tannic acid, a natural disinfectant. To clean a vacuum flask with a used tea bag, simply place the used tea bag in the flask and fill it with water. Let it sit overnight, then shake and empty.

Use baking soda and vinegar

For more heavy duty cleaning you can use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. To do this, mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of water. Pour this mixture into a vacuum flask and let it stand for 30 to 45 minutes. Afterwards, shake it well and rinse it off.

Use only vinegar

Even without baking soda, cleaning the vacuum flask with vinegar alone is still effective, but can be tricky. To do this, fill the vacuum bottle with vinegar and let it soak for 30 to 45 minutes. Shake the bottle to make sure the vinegar gets into all the nooks and crannies, then rinse well with water.
